“Peter Obi Could Be the Next Igbo President After Azikiwe” – Journalist Sparks Debate

A prominent Nigerian journalist has ignited fresh conversation around the future of Nigeria’s leadership, stating that Peter Obi may be the first Igbo leader to rule Nigeria well after Nnamdi Azikiwe.

The journalist made the statement during a roundtable discussion on national development and the 2027 general elections.

“Since Azikiwe, the Igbo people have yet to see one of their own lead Nigeria fully,” he said. “Peter Obi has what it takes not just to lead, but to lead well. The vision, the discipline, the passion it’s all there.”

Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nigeria’s first president and a founding father of the nation, has remained an iconic figure in Nigerian politics, especially across the South-East. For many Igbos, the presidency has felt out of reach for decades.

But the journalist believes Obi may change that narrative:

“We’ve seen what he did in Anambra, how he speaks, how he manages resources. Even his opponents admit he’s different. The energy around him is organic and it cuts across tribes.”

The remark has since triggered reactions online. While some Nigerians echoed the sentiment, others questioned whether the political structure would allow for such a shift. Still, many say Obi represents a chance for renewed hope in a divided nation.
